BPS Syllabus

The syllabus covers the basic mechanisms of disease that trainees need to understand so they are equipped to train in any chosen discipline and to understand pathology disciplines other than their own field. The syllabus includes sections on error reduction and prevention, common laboratory tests and basic research methods so trainees can better understand the importance of test interpretation, quality control and quality assurance in medicine.

The syllabus has 13 sections. The key references for the first 11 sections correspond to chapters 1-11 of Robbins & Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease, by Vinay Kumar, Abul K. Abbas, Jon C. Aster, 10th edition. Additional materials are provided in the syllabus which supplement the key reference and are examinable. The key references and supplementary materials provided for sections 12 and 13 will support your learning and are examinable. As many as possible of these references are from open access journals but for copyright reasons articles cannot be placed on the College website.
