International Pathology Day 2020
Wednesday 11 November 2020
Thank you to our speakers, staff and over 100 online participants who tuned in to our International Pathology Day event this year.
International Pathology Day (IPD) is an annual awareness day dedicated to highlighting the fundamental role of pathology in the healthcare community and in the lives of everyone.
Never before has pathology testing made such a contribution to the wellbeing of the community as it has now, during this COVID-19 pandemic. The entire healthcare system has been able to wisely use the knowledge gained from COVID-19 testing to locate the virus and protect the community. Hosted by Sophie Scott, National Health Reporter for the ABC, this years’ IPD event celebrated the pivotal role that pathology has played in guiding us safely through this pandemic. We discovered what went on behind the scenes from some of the pathologists who have been at the very forefront of the country’s response to COVID-19.
We will welcomed RCPA Fellows, Prof Deborah Williamson, Clinical Microbiologist and Deputy Director of the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory (MDU PHL); Prof Bill Rawlinson AM, Senior Medical Virologist and the Director of Virology at South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra Health Service; A/Prof Paul Griffin Infectious Diseases Physician and Microbiologist and Director of Infectious Diseases at Mater Health Services Brisbane; A/Prof Rob Baird, Director of Pathology, Infectious Diseases Physician, Royal Darwin Hospital and Professor Peter Collignon, Infectious Diseases Physician and Microbiologist, Australian National University.
