Pathologists and Scientists are indispensible to the practice of Medicine. A series of videos and brochures have been developed to highlight what Pathologists do in their day to day working life to inform and entertain.
Anatomical Pathology deals with the tissue diagnosis of disease. Anatomical Pathologists need a broad-based knowledge and understanding of the pathological and clinical aspects of many diseases.
Chemical Pathology deals with the entire range of disease and encompasses detecting changes in a number of substances in blood and body fluids (such as electrolytes, enzymes and proteins).
Forensic Pathology seeks to investigate and define the cause of unexpected death.
Genetic Pathology looks at chromosomes and DNA from cells to diagnose genetic diseases.
Haematology deals with diseases that affect the blood such as anaemia, leukaemia, lymphoma, clotting or bleeding disorders as well as management of blood transfusions. Professor Rasko is a research specialist in the field.
Immunopathology deals with the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases in which the immune system is either underactive (such as immunodeficiencies that lead to susceptibility to infection) or overactive (such as autoimmune and allergic conditions).
Microbiology deals with diseases caused by infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.
