Blood gas arterial, co-oximetry. Full blood count, Blood film.

Respiratory failure

 

Right to left shunts

 

  • Congenital heart disease

 

Methaemoglobinaemia

Methaemoglobin, Sulphaemoglobin. Heinz body preparation.
  • Nitrites

 

  • Sulphonamides

 

Haemoglobinopathy

 

  • Haemoglobin M

Identification of Haemoglobin M including Haemoglobin electrophoresis.

Further investigation - specialised laboratory.
