Appropriate Tests

 

Blood gas arterial. Full blood count, Blood film; APTT as baseline for heparin therapy; Prothrombin time, Fibrinogen especially if thrombolysis contemplated.

Diagnosis made based on clinical and imaging findings

Qualitative D Dimer may have a role in screening especially risk assessment of venous thromboembolism (VTE)  in ED and outpatients. Consult haematopathologist.
