Appropriate Tests

Generalised exfoliative dermatitis complicating infection with some strains of Staphylococcus aureus.

Occurs mainly in neonates and young children.

Nasal swab; Wound swab (skin).

Skin biopsy may be indicated.

Serum for TSST-1 detection (may need to be referred overseas).
